Obituary of Janice Sue Turner

Janice Sue Turner October 16, 1945 - July 08, 2017 Janice Sue Turner(nee Van Winkle) died July 8, 2017 in Hobbs, NM due to complications following a stroke. She was 71. Janice was born October 16, 1945 in Portales, NM to Pike and Sybil Van Winkle. She graduated from Portales, High School in 1963. She married Gary Caviness in 1964 and they moved to Hereford, Texas. They also lived in Elkins, NM and Maljamar, NM where Gary was a rancher and Janice worked alongside him. Following Gary’s death in 1996, Janice married J Turner in 2001 they made their home in Lovington, NM. Janice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Mark Runyan of House, NM; her son and daughter-in-law Lance and Mendy Caviness of Pearland, TX. Janice was named “Nanny” by her grandchildren; she is survived by 6 grandchildren: Chase (Morgan) Runyan of San Angelo, TX, Jason (Ashley) Runyan of Leonard, TX, Tell Runyan and friend Cheyenne Robinson of Las Cruses, NM, Crystal (Corey) Stewart of Temple, TX, Mason Caviness of Nashville, TN, Miles Caviness of Waco, TX, and two great grandchildren: Caesan Runyan and Beckham Runyan of San Angelo, TX. Janice was the youngest girl of fourteen children she is survived by her brothers: Peter (Earlene) Van Winkle of Carlsbad,NM, Bill (Judy) Van Winkle of Lubbock, T.X. and Jim (Darlene) Van Winkle of Ruidoso, NM.; three sisters: Vera (Mill) Arnold of Portales, NM, Helen (Pete) Hester of Albuquerque, NM, and Cookie McGee of Portales,NM. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, four brothers: Gerald, Albert, Fred and Buck Van Winkle; three sisters: Joy MaGaha, Wanda Hankins and Joann Ussrey. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home 321 W. Washington Street, Lovington, NM With Pastor Corey Steward officiating.
