Apolonio M. "Paul" Vega May 15, 1934 - October 07, 2014 Funeral services for Apolonio “Paul” M. Vega, 80, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Redenton Molina officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Rosary will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Vega was born May 15, 1934 in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Juan and Trinidad Vega and passed away in Lubbock, Texas on October 7, 2014. Paul married his childhood sweetheart, Regina Perez in Edinburg, TX on January 11, 1955. Apolonio, better known as “Paul” by all of his family and friends, was a hard working man who made his living working in dairies and later in life in the oilfield, where he worked until the age of 80. He was known as an oilfield legend by all of his colleagues and friends, who had the privilege of working with him. He loved work and was always working even when he wasn’t at work. Paul was loved by everyone he ever met and will always be remembered by his care-free outlook on life; strong faith and the smile that never left his face. He truly was a man with a heart of gold, who knew no stranger. He leaves behind a legacy of love, life and hard work ethics, that will forever live on in all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Ruben Vega Sr; one grandaughter: Regina Vega-Hooven; two brothers and one sister. Paul is survived by his wife of 59 years, Regina, of the home; daughter: Trini and husband Hector Alvarado; daughter-in-law, Linda Gallegos; Son: Librado Vega Sr; daughter, Rachel Vega Trevino and son –in-law, Donnie Trevino; Son, Apolonio “Paul” Vega Jr and daughter in law Olga Vega, all of Lovington. Thirteen grandchildren: Jesse, Yesenia, Jerry, Nereyda, Ruben Jr., Robert, Librado Jr., Jose Ruben, Donnie Jr. Julius, Paola, Jordi, Jordan, and seventeen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Librado and wife Phoebe Vega of Weslasco, TX and Francisco and wife Juanita Marroquin of Alamo, TX and one sister: Lidia and husband Larry Olivo of Dacano, Colorado. Paul touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. He will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 8:30 am until rosary time.
