Obituary of Eliseo Velasquez

Eliseo Velasquez June 14, 1946 - June 30, 2018 Funeral services for Eliseo “Cheyo” Velasquez, 72, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Kirby- Smith -Rogers Chapel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5th from 10:00 am until Rosary. Mr. Velasquez was born on June 14, 1946 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico to Martin M. Esparza and Petrolila Velasquez and passed away on June 30, 2018 in Lubbock, TX. “Cheyo” was a nickname for him but his family and all his friends called him “Grandpa”. He loved his family and his grandchildren and was quite a fun person to be around. He was always joking and making people laugh, even when he was so sick. He was a very hard worker and was employed in the oilfield as a mechanic before his illness. He enjoyed music and was very involved in the Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son: Carlos Velasquez and one brother: Dario Velasquez. He is survived by his wife: Maria Carmen Velasquez of Ojinaga; four sons: Lencho and Diana Rodriguez of Pearsall, TX; Roy Rodriguez of Pearsall, TX; Eliseo Jr. and Michelle Velasquez of Lovington, NM; Jose Angel Velasquez of Mexico; three daughters: Veronica and Tony Robles of Hobbs, Adelida and David Salas of Lubbock, TX and Gregoria and Victor Martinez of Lovington, NM; two brothers: Max Velasquez of Eunice, NM and Blas Velasquez of Lovington, NM; Four sisters: Rosenda Hargrove of Lovington; Vicenta Aranda of Lubbock, Juliana and husband Nate Sanchez of Lovington and Juanita and husband Efrain Rueda of Lovington. Also, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family requests that donations be made to Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home to help with their expenses.
