Alma Elizabeth Blackwell Carter January 03, 1920 - April 26, 2010 Graveside services for Alma Blackwell Carter, 90, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Tatum Cemetery with Charles Ivie, Minister at Tatum Church of Christ officiating. Services are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Alma was born on January 3, 1920 in Evansville, Indiana to Gerhard and Mary (Hoevels) Vercamp and passed away on April 26, 2010 at Heartland Care in Hobbs, NM. She had been a resident there for the last five years. Alma’s main concern in life was taking care of her family. She worked hard all her life, raising her children alone and making sure they were provided for during years that were difficult for everyone. She was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, was a great cook, a plain spoken, spirited and strong willed woman who loved high fashion and always looked in style. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Rita Ann Lofton, one brother and four sisters. She is survived by her son, Gale and wife Gloria Blackwell of Tatum, NM and one daughter, Betty Crossley of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 28th from noon until 5pm; Thursday from 8 am until 8 pm and Friday from 8 am until noon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and the mail-in donation paper may be picked up at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
