Amy Jean Wilks September 04, 1912 - May 12, 2007 Funeral services for Amy Jean Wilks of Lovington, NM, are 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Third and Central Church of Christ with Mark, Kirk, and Silas Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Mrs. Wilks, 94, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Lovington Good Samaritan Center. She was born September 4, 1912, in Gorhamtown, Louisiana. She married H. Wandal Wilks on May 4, 1932, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Amy sometimes known as "Jean" was a simple woman who was very family oriented. She was one of the first members of Third and Central Church of Christ. She and her husband had a school bus contract for many years in Lovington and she drove the buses. She grew the most wonderful garden of vegetables for canning, and she wrote beautiful poetry. Survivors include three daughters, Nelda Sue Goff of Albuquerque, NM, Genevieve and husband Slick Duncan of Lovington; and Marilyn Barnard of Lovington, NM; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Geneva (Gorham) Townsend; her husband, H. Wandal Wilks; four brothers; Elmo, Hardy, Stanley and Andrew Townsend; and five sisters; Ann Jones, Alma Robbins, Bertha Gates, Maude Hall and Johnnie Prestridge. Services are being directed by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
