Dean G. Williams
March 10, 1946 - December 25, 2016
Funeral services for Dean Gerry Williams, 70, of Lovington, NM, will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Revival Center Church with Bro. Wayne Villar officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29th from 2:00 -7:00 pm with the family in residence at the funeral home from 5:00-6:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Williams was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa on March 10, 1946 to Charles Sydney and Lucille Jane (Sands) Williams and passed away in Lubbock, Texas on December 25, 2016. He attended Jefferson Elementary School in Iowa and in 1957 the family moved to Hobbs, NM where he attended Heiser Jr. High and then graduated from Hobbs High School. He was an “excellent” basketball player and in 1964, all five of the Eagle’s starters played in the North-South game. He served in the US Navy and was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. Dean was manager of Forrest Tire Service for many years, where he made many friends. He liked riding motorcycles and was well-known and was big-time into drag racing. He had a great sense of humor and loved teasing and cutting up with people and never met a stranger. He was a very well-liked man and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving him is his mother: Lucille Williams of Perry, OK; one daughter: Summer Williams Varner and husband David of Longview, TX; his best friend, Tammy Jones of Lovington, NM; two brothers: Doug Williams of Lovington, NM and Gene Williams of Irving, TX; three sisters: Judy Williams Dodd of Ft. Worth, TX; Jane Beckett and husband Jim of Homeny, OK, Dorothy Norton and husband Bobby of Perry, OK; three grandchildren: Preslye Lacy and husband Chanse of Gladewater, TX; Kelsye Copeland and Daniel Copeland both of Longview, TX; two great-grandchildren: Rayson Lacy and Anastasia Lacy and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to “Wounded Warriors” or any organization to help Veterans.
