Obituary of Marguerite Bernice Breckon

Marguerite Bernice Breckon September 24, 2009 - April 28, 2009 Funeral services for Bernice Breckon, 82, of Tatum, NM will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 2:00 pm at Tatum Methodist Church with burial to follow at Tatum Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Breckon passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in Lubbock, TX. She was born in New Castle, Texas on September 24, 1926 to Buck & Mary (Sloan) Roark. She married Alvin Breckon on Sept. 24, 1942 in Lovington, NM. The Breckons were ranchers at Tatum and were well known for their love, support and work they did for the Boys and Girls Ranches. Bernice loved people and was known as the “Hat Lady.” She loved her family & was active in the community, the Lea County Fair, Lovington Chapter # 35 Order of Eastern Star, & the Tatum Methodist Church. She also ran the McDonald store and post office for 26 years. She is survived by two daughters: Stevie Stroud of Tatum, NM and Janie & husband Lee York of Capitan, NM. One sister, Phyllis & husband Melvin Townsend of Macintosh, NM, 4 grandchildren, & 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin, & one sister, Peggy Cole. Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 and Thursday from 8:00 am-noon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Ranches, PO Box 9, Belen, NM 87002-9001.
