Obituary of Barney Young

Barney Young November 24, 1948 - March 28, 2017 Funeral services for Barney William Young, 68, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lovington with Pastor David Reber officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Barney was born on November 24, 1948 in Forman, Arkansas to Willie Wesley and Mary Eula (Jennings) Young and passed away on March 28, 2017 in Lovington. He lived in Dusty, NM when he was young, as his dad worked in a sawmill and then moved to Truth or Consequences as a teenager and attended school there. He joined the US Army serving in Vietnam. He met Carolyn Meyer in Ft. Riley, KS and they were married in Hollenberg, KS on May 9, 1970 and they shared forty seven years of life and love. They moved to New Mexico, eventually making their home in Lovington where Barney was employed doing construction and working in the oilfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and like spending time in “the hills” as he called their place in Queens. He was a great family man and loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Laurie Young McKee; five brothers: Edward, James, Holman, Winford and Glendon “Tuffy” Young; five sisters: Bertha, Vada Mae, Etta Montoya, Lillian George and Margaret Knoppel. Surviving him is his wife Carolyn “Carrie” Young of the home; two sons: Edward and wife Jennifer Young of Lovington and James and wife Janette Young of Azle, TX; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm with the family in residence at the funeral home from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.
