Obituary of Billie LaVon Bonds

Billie LaVon Bonds February 02, 1938 - March 16, 2018 Graveside services for Billie LaVon Bonds, 80, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Lovington Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Billie was born in Bentley, Oklahoma, Atoka County on February 2, 1938 to L.D. and June Earlene (Brooks) Barnes and passed away in Lubbock, TX on March 16, 2018. She was raised in West Texas and Eastern, NM and has lived in Lovington for fifty seven years plus. Billie married Ed Bonds in Plains, TX in 1973. She was employed at the hospital in Denver City, TX as an R.N. for twenty nine years. She enjoyed Bingo, Scrabble, Jeopardy, gambling and the football playoffs on TV. She also loved riding her motorcycle and she liked going to the Senior Citizens Center three days a week. She had a good sense of humor and was a great mom but would tell you when you erred in any way and she liked having control. She cooked to survive and feed her family but wasn’t considered a good cook and thought catsup would cover a multitude of cooking errors. You had to know her to appreciate her and her uniqueness. She loved her family and was especially crazy about her grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her parents; her husband; and a great-grandchild: Emma Barr. Surviving her are her two sons: Loyd and wife Carol Foster of Hobbs, NM and Bill Foster of Lovington, NM; one sister: Barbara Witt of Roswell, NM; one brother: Lindel Barnes of LA Harbor, CA; four grandchildren: Megan Foster of Lubbock, TX, Jason Foster of Amarillo, TX Loyd Leon Foster of Hobbs, NM and Melyssa and husband Jeff Shrock of Clermont, FL; three great-grandchildren: Malachi Barr, Liam Shrock and Samantha Mason. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm at the funeral home and also on Thursday morning from 9:00 – 12:30.
