Obituary of William Creed Smith

Graveside services for William "Bill" Creed Smith, 78, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 10:00 am at Lovington Cemetery with Pastor Zac Zimmerman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Bill was born on April 19, 1940 in Lovington, NM to Mark and Ann (Davidson) Smith and passed away on October 2, 2018 at his residence. He graduated from Lovington High School in 1958 and Sul Ross University in 1963. He married Nancy Lovelady at Ft. Hancock, TX on January 20, 1962 and they have shared fifty six years of life and love together. He was a team roper in earlier years and was a member of NM Cattle Growers, Elks Club and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. Bill loved ranching, cattle and family. He would sing to his kids, very loudly, to wake them up of the morning and he wouldn't stop until they sang with him. He loved his family. He was an integral part of Lea County and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents: Mark and Ann; one brother; Kenneth Mark Smith and one sister: Lora Nell Glenn. Surviving him is his wife Nancy of the home; one son: Russ and wife Kim Smith of Lubbock, TX; one daughter: Gwen and husband Tim Bryant of Ardmore, OK; eight grandchildren: Jayce and Jordan Smith of Dallas, TX., Kyle Smith of Pensacola, FL., Brendan Smith of Canyon, TX., Wade Smith of Dallas TX., Haley Bryant of Sayre, OK., Shay Bryant of Tampa, FL., Zane Bryant and Cade Bryant both of Ardmore, OK. Also his sister-in-law: Pat Smith and brother-in-law: Jeff Glenn and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
