Obituary of Margarita D. Valdez

Funeral services for Margarita D. Valdez, 74, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Valdez was born on September 13, 1944 in Artesia, NM to John Sr. and Encarnacion Duran and passed away at her residence in Lovington on December 23, 2018. She grew up in Artesia, attending school there and in 1960 she married Isabel Valdez in Artesia. She enjoyed cleaning and cooking and was a very good cook. She was a woman of faith and was religious about doing her rosary at least twice a day. She was a person that always welcomed her family and friends into her home and her heart. Her passion was taking care of and loving her family. Her grandchildren were a great joy to her. She was preceded in death by her parents: one daughter: Ermalinda Sears; two brothers: John Jr. and Henry Duran and one sister: Gloria Ortega. Surviving her is her husband Isabel of the home; one son: Steven and wife Rubi Valdez of Las Cruces, NM; two daughters: Elisa and husband Jesus Lozoya of Lovington, and Diana and husband Jose Morales of Lovington; two brothers: Michael and wife Toby Duran of Artesia, NM and Luis and wife Juanita Duran also of Artesia.; two sisters: Rosa and husband Santos Garcia of Artesia and Lupe and husband Adolfo Ortega of Artesia; sixteen grandchildren; thirty- three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 2:00 pm until Rosary time at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
