On the evening of December 24, 2018, God took another good Cowboy home. Donald Lee Spears, 85, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve in Hobbs, NM. He was the son of Cowboy Robert Lee Spears and Agnes Redwine Spears. Mr. Spears was born on July 19, 1933 in Lovington, NM. He married Mary Margaret Rogers in Lovington on June 7, 1952 and they have shared sixty six years of life and love together. Donald Lee was affectionately known by many as "Duck". He was a Lea County Original and will be greatly missed. He was a great neighbor, a "helluva" a cowboy and friend to many.
Surviving him is his wife Mary Margaret; three daughters: Mary Lee and husband Jay Clelland of N.C., Donna Spears Johnson of Lovington, and Sarah Ann Spears of Hobbs, NM.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2018 at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel at 3:00 pm with the family officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Lea County Museum in memory of Mr. Spears.
