Obituary of Walter James Madron

Memorial services for Walter James Madron, 90, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis Durfee officiating. Walter was born on September 19, 1928 in Holdenville, OK to John Lee and Annie Inez (Harris) Madron and passed away in Hobbs, NM on December 12, 2018. On December 3, 1946 he married his childhood sweetheart, Margie D. Rowe. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and spent eighteen months in Korea during the Korean conflict. In 1956 he moved to Hobbs to work for Vendex and later became manager of Vendex, Mid-Continent Supply and supplied every theater in the state of NM with concession supplies, retiring in 1991 from the same company. Walter was a hardworking man and never knew what the word "quit" meant; saying, "the impossible only took longer." He was named "Man of the Year" in 1974 by the City of Hobbs. He was a devoted Christian and member of Jefferson Street Church of Christ in Hobbs. His favorite hobby was singing with his band. They were called "Under the Double Eagle" and were out of Denver City and also at multiple venues. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son: Jimmy Leon Madron and two brothers: Edward and Jimmy Lee Madron. Surviving him is his wife of 72 years, Margie, of the home; one daughter: Sherry Lynn and husband Steve Duda of Lovington; one son: Coy Lee and wife Jo Madron of Hobbs; three sisters: Ann Box, Ruth Fike and Virginia Pitts all of Hobbs; 11 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; two nephews: David Madron and Bobby Madron; also other nieces, nephews and extended family. The family wishes to invite all to join them just NE of Hobbs at Higginbotham, TX on FM Road 1757, at Higginbotham Community Center for a Celebration of Walter's Life and a get-together at 1:00 pm NM time on the 7th after the service.
