Obituary of Carrie Swenson

Carrie Mae (Kepford) Swenson, 83, entered into the presence of the Lord on January 9, 2019 in Denver City, TX. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Lovington with Pastor Matt Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Carrie was born August 28, 1935 in Ringwood, Oklahoma to Claude William and Helen Lorene (Phillips) Kepford. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. She attended first through third grade in Wichita Falls, TX; fourth grade in Enid, OK, fifth grade at Cimarron Valley and then sixth through eleventh grade in Enid. Her parents moved to Ringwood in 1952, where she graduated from High School in 1953. She married Eric Wayne Swenson on July 18, 1954 and moved to Wichita Falls, TX for two years. From there they moved to Lovington, NM in 1956 and made Lovington their permanent home ever since.
Carrie had an interest in art from an early age. She loved painting in oil and pastel and completed the Famous Artists Course before attending New Mexico Jr. College in Hobbs. One of her greatest pleasures and memories was her time spent studying art at NMJC, as well as the five years she taught drawing and pastel at the college. She was a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America in New York, NY, a member of the New Mexico Pastel Society in Albuquerque, NM and Llano Estacado Art Association in Hobbs, NM. Carrie was a well- respected artist and won many awards. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Lovington and enjoyed participating in the women's activities and Bible studies. Her faith in Jesus continued throughout her life and showed by the way she treated others. Many lives have been touched by her sweet gentle spirit and pleasant nature.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Wayne of fifty seven years, one daughter: Carolyn Parsons; two sisters: Virginia Kepford Spratt and Claudette Kepford Tarrant.
Carrie is survived by her son, Barry Swenson of Lovington and five grandchildren: Jared and Jaden Swenson of Lovington; Rusty, Chad and Jeff Williams of Hobbs, NM and six great-grandchildren: Sage, Brees and Isaiah Swenson of Lovington; Wyatt Williams and Aylesa Lobeck of Lubbock, TX and Aiden Williams of Arlington, TX. Also her brother: Jere and wife Juanita Kepford and sister: Norma and husband Ed Montgomery, all of Oklahoma City, OK; and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2018 from 1:00 – 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
