Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Dorothy was born in Lubbock, TX on June 7, 1932 to Nathan W. and Sally (Ward) Altman and passed away at Hobbs Health Care on January 15, 2019. She has made her home in Lovington since the early 90's, although she had lived here previously in the late 50's. She grew up on a farm in Childress County, TX and in elementary years they moved and she attended school at HiWay. She loved driving the tractor and was a little bossy about who else drove it and she was very talented at fixing almost anything. She had worked at several different types of jobs such as Jake's Drugs and held several positions with the Lovington P.D. for eleven years, even serving as a meter maid; also Bell Dairy for five years and Triple A Coffee Service for nine years. Her passion was woodworking and she had great talent for making a wide variety of wood products. She loved carving and made wood paper dolls for her sisters; made some items for Frances Chastain for her shop and she loved making things for her nieces and nephews. Dorothy had a great sense of humor and liked playing around even when she should be serious, but truly enjoyed having fun. Her sisters described her as plain spoken, independent, things done on her terms and loving, feisty and sassy. She was also grateful for the wonderful care given her at the nursing home. Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers: Jack, Ray, Don, Junior and Weldon Altman, and two sisters: Marie Loftis and Odessa Crisman. Surviving her are four sisters: Ruth McCallum of Arlington, TX, Joyce Altman of Lovington, NM, Gladys Willingham of Anton, TX and Linda Murphy of Lubbock, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
