Funeral services for Wanda Yates, 85, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home with Randy Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Wanda was born on May 7, 1933 in Big Spring, Texas to Isaac and Della (Norman) McComas and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1950 and on July 17th, 1950 she married her husband of 68 years, J.R. Yates. They moved to Lovington in 1955 where they raised their three children. Wanda was a passionate wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always lending a helping hand on the farm. She loved to cook for her family, especially on holidays and birthdays. Sunday dinners and pecan pies were her specialty. Preceding her in death was her husband: JR Yates; her parents: Isaac and Della McComas; five brothers: Tuffy, Seaburn, Homer, Toby, and Jr.; also one sister: Violet; one son-in-law: Ray Morgan and one great-grandson: Dillyn Terry Sharp. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children: Jimmy and wife Cheryl Yates of Farmington, NM; Jason and wife Kindall Yates of Denton, TX and Jody Yates Morgan of Lovington. Also nine grandchildren , thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 pm until service time at 3:00 pm.
