Funeral services for Anita V. Acosta, 72, of Lovington, NM will be held on March 7, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Jesus Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Anita was born on February 14, 1947 in Barrancos de Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico to Julian Garcia and Carmen Velasquez and passed away on March 3, 2019 in Lovington, NM. Anita came to Lovington in 1957 and she taught English to immigrants in camps. She also worked as a waitress and a bus driver. She enjoyed gardening and cooking but did not like washing dishes. She loved to travel and singing in the choir as she loved music. She was a lector and liaison for the East side of Diocese of Las Cruces and was very good at visiting the sick and counseling. She spent thirty years as prayer group leader and was definitely a servant to others. She loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Thomas Garcia; four half- brothers and four half- sisters. Surviving her is her husband Daniel Acosta of the home; two sons: Daniel Acosta and wife Yvonne Acosta of Hobbs, NM, and Alfredo Acosta and wife Mayra of Lovington, NM; two brothers; Rafael Velasquez and wife Evangelina of Pecos, TX, and Pedro Velasquez of Hobbs, NM; one sister: Selsa Moreno of Lovington, NM; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 11:00 am until Rosary time at 7:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel.
