Frances Murle Crow December 01, 1917 - March 28, 2008 Graveside funeral services for Frances Murle Holloway Crow will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 10:00 am at Lovington Cemetery . Mrs. Crow, 90, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2008 at her residence in Lovington. Services are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday, March 31, 2008 from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Crow was born in Knowles, New Mexico on December 1, 1917. Her parents and grandparents were pioneers in Lea County. Her Mother, Lottie York came here as a child with her family, the Willhoits, from Hill County, Texas in 1905 and they settled in Knowles where they had a ranch and a general store. Frances’ father, Clyde Holloway was born in Midland, Texas, but was killed in a work related accident when Frances was three. Lottie and Frances returned to Knowles and then to Lovington. Lottie opened up the first beauty shop in Lovington in 1927 and Frances started school. Grandad & Granny Willhoit also moved from Knowles to Lovington. They built a house on 3rd st. and Adams and lived there until their deaths. The house is still there. Back then Lovington was a town of about 300. The streets were dirt and had wooden sidewalks. On the courthouse square there was a windmill and trough and hitching rail so the cowboys would have a place to tie and water their horses when they came to town. In 1935, Frances met and married J. C. Crow and they started their family. They built a house at 311 S. 3rd St. and raised their children there. They had two daughters, LeeAnn and Pat and one son, Jim Crow who passed away August 7, 2001. J. C. passed away Sept. 6, 1980. Frances had a full life. She loved people and her home was always open for friends to drop by for coffee and a visit. She worked at various places around town, spending the last 20 years of her working career at Elliot & Waldron Abstract Co. She was a member of the Methodist Church and a life member of Lovington Chapter 35 Order of Eastern Star. She also was a Pink Lady at the hospital. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her daughter-in-law Connie Crow and her two sons, Josh and Casey; LeeAnn and her husband Grady’s three children, Bill, Patty, & Gene; Pat & her husband Ron’s children, Mark & Shelly, and five great grandchildren.
