Obituary of John W. Bradford

Funeral services for J. W. "Brad" Bradford, 90, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Wease officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mr. Bradford was born in Margaret, TX on December 16, 1928 to Ralph and Zola Mae (Foster) Bradford and passed away at his home on March 7, 2019. He came to Lovington in 1951 and on June 16, 1956 he married Barbara Ann Banks in Lubbock, TX and they shared fifty nine years together before her death in 2015. He was employed for 32 years with Halliburton, holding several positions during that time. Brad loved music and was a master craftsman, making fiddles, guitars, dulcimers and other musical instruments and could fix or build just about anything. He served in the US Army and was a very honorable man; if he gave his word it was a bond. He was a wise and religious man and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Brad had lots of friends and family that would gather at his house and they would play and sing and the dominoes would appear and a good game of "42" would ensue or on other days, a friendly game of chess with his friend Kevin. Brad enjoyed his garden and fresh veggies and he liked fishing a lot. He was also called "the mercury man". He loved those mercury cars!!

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Barbara; one brother: Floyd Bradford and one sister: Pauline Sturdivant.

Surviving him are his four sons: Tommy and wife Pamela of Viola, AR, Jay and wife Kim of Lafayette, LA, Robert and wife Angela of Lubbock, TX and Larry of Hobbs, NM; two brothers: Henry Bradford and Jimmy and wife Joyce Bradford both of Vernon, TX; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11th from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, Building Fund, 220 West Ave I, Lovington, NM 88260, in memory of Brad.
