Graveside services for Theta Stearns, 89, of Tatum, NM will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 10:00 am at Tatum Cemetery with Heath Wilson and Bobby Stearns officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Stearns was born in Eden, Texas on March 5, 1930 to Robert H. and Lois (Thaxton) Hurst and passed away on April 9, 2019 in Levelland, TX. She grew up in Bastrop, TX and in 1947 she married Ben J. Stearns in Odessa, TX and they shared twenty two years before his death. Theta was the epitome of a homemaker. Her passion was for her family and she remembered everyone's birthdays and anniversaries and acknowledged them. She kept books for the Little League when her kids were growing up and she and Ben ran the "Coyote Drive-in Theatre" where Theta ran the concession stand for quite sometime. She had good food and was very organized. She also was employed by Keith Gas Company for several years and Maurice L. Brown Jr. Company. She always had a good sense of humor, loved country western music and would harmonize with the songs and loved to dance. She enjoyed her yard and did her own mowing until about two years ago. In later years she enjoyed game shows and crossword puzzles. She always had a young spirit, as she felt she was never old enough to go to Senior Citizens. She loved her family and will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband; one son: Melvin Ray Stearns and two sisters: Roberta Clemmer and Mary Rose Hurst.
Surviving her is her son, John Robert and wife Lou Ann Stearns of Crossroads, NM; one daughter: Beneta Haley of Sugarland, TX; six Grandchildren; eight Great-grandchildren and four Great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
