Obituary of Augustine Ramon Vigil

Augustine Ramon Vigil fondly know as Gus passed away on August 25, 2023 at his residence in Lovington, New Mexico. Gus was born on February 1, 1938 in Espanola, New Mexico to Juan Jose and Felip Vigil. He was in the Air Force stationed at Cannon Air Force, when he met his angel (as he called her) at Eastern New Mexico University, they married March 5, 1966 in Espanola, New Mexico. Gus spent 20 years in the Air Force, 9 years as a Security Superintendent and 11 years in the OSI. He retired in 1979 from the Air Force then started a career in the Insurance World as a Workman's Comp Claims Adjustor. He started that career in Wausau, Wisconsin then moved to Albuquerque where he worked in Santa Fe as a Claims Adjuster. Gus retired in 2009, moved to Lovington, New Mexico to help Angel take care of her mother, Lillian Jones and make Lovington their home. Gus was an avid reader and loved doing projects around the house. He was a fighter of this disease of IPF but it was one he couldn't beat, but he fought to the end anyway. I love you and will miss you, my partner. He was preceded in death by his parents four brothers: Juan F. Vigil, Jose E. Vigil, Pedro E. Vigil, and Miguel Vigil; two sisters: Mazie Vigil Weaver and Felipita Vigil Vallejos. He is survived by his wife: Elaine Vigil of 57 years; one sister: Marie Vigil of Albuquerque; three sisters-in-law: Carol Vigil, Jesse Vigil of Espanola, and Elena Kim Vigil of Del Mar Florida; three brothers-in-law: David Jones and wife Patty, David Careaga and wife Amy, and Ralph Harwood and wife Lynn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that loved him dearly. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00 am at Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel with Mathew Jones officiating. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
